i still have the Madrigal Proceed PDT 3 CD Transport at home and its never being used since my dad went to china like for 6 years…hehhehe cool cd player it used to be hooked up with my dad’s Mark Levinson no.29 and no.26 and the powersupply..

Yes, Opera 2.2 is a good at its price range.
The Droplet also very good, but almost 3 times more expensive.

That’s an interesting comparisson but keep in mind, CD player sound is also dependant on amplification.

I use the Opera Consonance 2.2 Reference in my system ( made of PS Audio pre and poweer amplifiers and KEF Reference 3.2 speakers) with excellent results.

Prior to the Opera player, I used a Naim CD5i which did not stand a chance against it.

I also compared the Opera to the much more expensive Naim CD X 2 and still prefered it.

In my opinion, the Consonance 2.2 is one of the best and most underated players available, and it competes with most High End super expensive machines in realism and musical involvement.

Hi Pak Jimmy,

It’s been very pleasure to read your article.
I’ve a Dynaco CDV-1 CDP player using 2 x tube 6922 output.
As your mentioned on the article above about Consonan CD player which’s using tube output also and
the sound is not good enough but have good potensial to upgrade.
From your view, what kind of upgrade can be done? I’ve the same complain with my CDP (little bit dull, not too detail and separation is weak)

Could you give suggestions on my upgrade plan Pak Jimmy?

You can try reading local audio magazine… usually they cover some people who will do the mods for you. Some place to visit are Mangga Dua and Lindeteves. There are some stores who sell audio components, and usually they also offer such service.

Hello Mr. Jimmy

I am a hi-fi and vocal jazz fan but don`t know much about hi-fi. I am currently using :
a) Roger tube E20a
b) Roger LS3 speakers
c) Rega – Planet CD player , which the panel of judges found it flat and boxy.
Do you think , I can change some componets inside and then upgrade the sound
quality like what they did to their Nad CD player and If I could, where can I do it.
I am living in Jakarta .
