I decide to mod my “3-weeks” old Onkyo SE-90PCI. The basic sound is good actually, but I think I can add more taste for it. I have checked my parts bin and see that I have enough parts to upgrade this sound card. But, I think I need to order some more. So, for now, I just remove all the capacitors first and we’ll see what can I do next ;)


Here’s the picture of the Onkyo SE-90PCI with removed capacitors. I leave the Os-Con there, since no capacitor better than Os-Con for this section.

    pak jimmy,saya baru beli onkyo se-90pci,menurut saya sound nya sudah bagus,perubahan seperti apa yg bapak harapkan dengan modif ini.Brapa kira2 biaya nya sampai modifnya selesai/max.Please kabari saya ya pak,Trima kasih

    Onkyo SE-90 PCI ini menurut saya sih masih “biasa” aja deh… ada banyak sektor yang bisa diimprove (semoga) hehehe… Caps2 yang dipake memang beberapa terlihat exotis (Silmic II)… tapi yang lain rasanya biasa2 aja (cuman “sekelas” Nichicon)… Resistor pun sepertinya cuman film biasa…

    Perubahan yang saya harapkan ya lebih detail, lebih transparan, lebih bersih, dll deh… masih ada banyak yang bisa diimprove dari barang ini…

    Perkiraan biaya mod mungkin 1-3 jutaan… kalo yang kecil2 mungkin 1 jutaan… kalo sampe ganti semua caps, tambah beberapa BlackGate, dan juga reclock, kayanya tembus deh 2,5-3 jutaan… Ini mungkin jadi mod terakhir saya untuk sound card… jadi ya mau all out deh…

    Boleh aja… kalo sanggup nyari Wonder/Solen yang nilainya puluhan mikro Farad kekeke… :D

    Solen/Wonder itu polyprop… nilainya tidak ada yang sebesar elco yang bisa puluhan sampe ribuan uF…

    Mungkin untuk diposisi tertentu masih bisa (seperti coupling) karena nilainya tidak terlalu besar… tapi untuk di jalur PSU sepertinya tidak mungkin… ukuran Solen 22uF aja uda segede granat tangan tuh hihihi :) Bisa2 satu casing CPU isinya caps doank :D

    bro.. kalo mod gini apa bisa ningkatin banyak qualitynya ya ? soalnya aku punya utk analognya aga aneh..suaranya kecil banget.. kalo misal di mod abis biaya berapa ya utk yg murah meriah aja deh…maklum kupingnya kelas kaleng
