I have 2 days holiday yesterday, so I decided to continue my suspended hobby ;)

Picture below is the audio boards of my Toshiba DVD Player SD-2960 (most people will know this as SD-3950 or SD-3960 on America). I have modded the audio board by replacing three power supply capacitors for the D/A BB TI 1751 with ELNA Cerafine 47uF/25Volt. Two more coupling capacitors also replaced with ELNA Cerafine 100uF/16Volt. These two coupling capacitors (the two big with terrible layout) used to couple from the D/A to the op-amp (CHMC 4558).

I just opened my Terratec Aureon FireWire 7.1 few days ago. I will explain for modding possibility with the picture below.

First of all, Terratec Aureon FireWire 7.1 is very interesting. It is an external sound card based on FireWire interface. Uniquely, it may act as a stand alone 2-channel D/A without the needs of PC. Just plug the supplied adaptor, plug the input Optical, the plug your amplifier to its analog RCA line-out. The D/A is Wolfson WM8770IFT 24/192 capable.

The first mod that we should do is off course to build a better adaptor/power supply. The supplied on is very crappy (just like the one to charge your phone/PDA, switching design I believe). I won’t use this for my audio (especially my D/A which may be very sensitive with power supply noise/problem). I will not discuss a lot about the power supply design. I will discuss it later (on other post).

We have seen a lot of CD Audio with “Audiophile Recording” logo. What does it mean? Well, this short article will explain it to you.

First, let’s check what does “Audiophile” term refer to.

Audiophile (literally, “one who loves sound”) is one who is concerned with achieving high-quality results in the recording and playback of music. Audiophile values may be applied at all stages of the chain: the initial audio recording, the production process, and the playback (usually in a home setting). The adjective “high-end” is commonly applied to audiophile vendors, products, and practices.

Artist: Rim Banna
Album: The Mirror of My Soul
Publisher: KIRKELIG kulturverksted
Recording Technology: N/A

About this album:
I don’t have too much comments on this album. This is a very unique album. All of the songs are in Arabian. Hard to explain it, though this is an Arabian album, but it’s not hard to enjoy it. I believe Rim Banna sings with full of emotion, so you don’t have to understand the language to enjoy it.
